Golden Wedding Anniversary
On September 7, 2018 we celebrated our Golden Wedding Anniversary (50 Years).
The family arranged a long weekend for us in a rental cottage in Door County, Wisconsin. We drove up from Kentucky in two days, and everyone arrived at the house from various directions during the afternoon. We had great weather for the whole trip and everyone enjoyed walking along our part of the 8 miles of uninterrupted beach.
We explored various lighthouses on the peninsula, including the Range Lights at Bailey’s Harbor and Cana Island.
The Range lights are a pair of lighthouses separated by about a thousand feet, and ships would line up the two lights so they knew they were on a safe course up the bay.
To get to Cana Island we had to cross the causeway and there was a tractor available to ferry people across but a few people chose to wade. There were great views from the top of the lighthouse.
On September 6 we had an English Tea party at the house. We also spent time at the Whitefish Dunes Nature Area and enjoyed the Maritime Museum and sampling cider at Island Orchard Cider in Ellison Bay.
We had a wonderful relaxed time in the house and enjoyed the spacious rooms and the beach area. We were treated to gourmet meals, culminating with cutting a cake to celebrate the occasion.
Eventually we had to head back home.
